Plastic Bag Mandala

← BACK TO GALLERY

After receiving a package where the plastic footprint far outweighed the product itself, I felt a need to transform that waste into art. What began as a photo documenting a mountain of plastic waste under my colorful dining room lights was digitally distilled into a series of mandalas. These pieces represent a double-edged sword: the ability to find transcendent beauty in the mundane, and the unsettling realization that I used additional resources—electricity, processing power, time—to create this beauty, and ultimately wound up discarding the materials. It is a sobering meditation on the footprint of both our physical and digital lives.

A vibrant, six-pointed digital mandala in shades of magenta, pink, and violet, featuring a translucent, crystalline texture. The design is centered on a dark, textured crimson background
A smaller, glowing lilac and violet hexagonal mandala with a crinkled, translucent texture, centered within a dark red, vignette-style background.
A digital pattern tile featuring a large magenta mandala in the center, flanked by smaller violet mandalas and geometric accents, all set against a deep red background
A seamless, repeating pattern of magenta and purple digital mandalas. The intricate, floral-like shapes create a rich tapestry of pink, violet, and deep red tones.
A close-up photograph of a crumpled, translucent plastic bag sitting on a dark wood floor, illuminated by a warm red light from above and a blue-purple light from the side.
